WIND ENERGY IS PUSHING RENEWABLES AND CREATING THE IDEAL BASE FOR EOLICA ARGENTINA

Investments in wind energy are continuously increasing in the South American country, which, in a few months time, will host the first edition of the event dedicated to this sector.
Eolica Argentina, the fair dedicated to the wind energy industry in Argentina, which will take place from 3 to 5 July 2012 at the La Rural exhibition centre of Buenos Aires, has already attracted considerable interest, and is gathering registrations of participation from the main companies of the sector.
The event, set up thanks to an agreement between Artenergy Publishing, leading company in the organization of events dedicated to renewable energies, and Aaee, the Argentinean wind energy association, will also include a qualified conference programme, being defined right now. Aaee has already informed about some of the topics it will deal with, including, for example, components, systems and technologies of wind energy turbines, the optimization and integration of renewable energy systems, the potentials of off-shore systems, the design, monitoring, management and maintenance of wind farms.
The Argentine Air Force, via the Directorate General of Development and Control, sponsor of Eolica Argentina, will also take part in the conference dedicated to the wind energy project at Base Marambio, in Antarctica. During the event, the Argentine Air Force, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, will also present a prototype wind turbine for extreme climates.
Eolica Argentina was founded under the best auspices. In fact, thanks to particularly favourable geo-climatic conditions, the South American country is continuing to attract investments. In the last few days, for example, a new project for the production of wind energy in the area of Santa Cruz has been awarded funding for EUR 52 million from the Corporación Andina de Fomento (Caf) and the Banco de Inversión y Comercio Exterior (Bice). The Koluel Kayke II wind farm foresees total investments of EUR 81 million, will have a total capacity of 25 MW and will be made up of 12 wind turbines based on technology developed by Impsa, which has already completed the preliminary studies and expects to start up the power plant in the next 14 months.
Moreover, not far from the city of Puerto Madryn, in the Chubut province, another 220 MW wind energy farm will also be built. The project includes the installation of 119 wind turbines on an area of about 6,200 acres. The land, which is between 113 and 141 metres above sea level, has average wind speeds of 8.4 metres per second.
The first 54 wind energy turbines will be installed between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2013, with the aim of starting up by the first quarter of the same year, while the remaining 65 turbines will be connected to the grid between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.
The energy produced by these plants will contribute to the implementation of the Argentinean renewable energy programme, which has the aim of having 8% of "green" electricity by 2016.
The programme aims at reducing the production of greenhouse gas in Argentina, decreasing the supply of energy from fossil sources by means of a greater use of clean energy. The development potential in this South American country is such that, in the future, wind and sunlight could not only satisfy the entire domestic needs, but also enable to export electricity.
Exploiting these important potentials of the Argentinean wind energy market is the aim of Eolica Argentina, a unique occasion to come into contact with the main players of the sector - both Argentinean and international.
